VARTA Releases Specialized Battery Installation Manuals for Commercial Fleets

The release addresses a recurring source of post-replacement electrical faults: non-standard compartment layouts and installation configurations where generic procedures omit critical vehicle-specific steps.

The Configuration Problem

Heavy commercial vehicles vary widely in battery placement, cable routing, and the integration of auxiliary consumers — tail lifts, refrigeration units, sleeper-cab heaters. Generic replacement procedures assume uniform layouts that do not exist in the parc. Installation mistakes follow, increasing the risk of additional repair work and vehicle downtime. Correct pairing and re-installation matter not only for cranking reliability but for downstream systems that depend on stable supply-rail behaviour under load.

The manuals exist to close that gap.

What the Manuals Contain

Each entry pairs a specific vehicle model to the correct VARTA battery, then sequences the replacement procedure. Photographs and wiring diagrams accompany each stage. Documentation is developed in partnership with Jaltest by Cojali S.L., a commercial-vehicle diagnostic-technology supplier, with the stated goal of OEM-standard alignment and ongoing updates as new vehicle information emerges.

Initial coverage spans a significant share of the commercial vehicle parc. Further model entries are planned.

Verification Baseline

Post-installation checks must confirm the parameters specified in the vehicle-specific manual:

  • Terminal torque values applied as documented.
  • Quiescent current draw within the OEM-defined window, accounting for telematics fitment.
  • BMS state-of-charge and state-of-health registers cleared and recalibrated through a compatible diagnostic tool.
  • Auxiliary consumers reconnected to the circuits specified for the model — not to battery posts.
  • First cranking attempt logged to confirm stable supply-rail voltage across the duration of starter engagement.

Where the manual calls for a software-level adaptation, the procedure must be performed before the vehicle returns to service. Skipping it leaves the management system operating on parameters calibrated for the previous cell set, masking undercharging and reporting false state-of-health values until the next diagnostic scan.

Portfolio and Showcasing

A new A-Type AGM product joins the VARTA heavy commercial vehicle battery range, completing the AGM portfolio across common vehicle applications. Theres Gosztonyi, vice president aftermarket EMEA at Clarios, framed the manuals as part of ongoing aftermarket investment across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The guides and the new A-Type unit are on display at the VARTA Automotive stand during Automechanika Frankfurt 2026, beginning 12 September.
