Grizzly Supply has been designated the exclusive distributor of SpillFix absorbent products in the U.S. market, according to Vehicle Service Pros. The coconut coir-based absorbents return to domestic distribution after a multi-year absence.
Composition and Handling Parameters
SpillFix products are manufactured from 100 percent natural coconut coir. The substrate is classified as non-toxic and lightweight relative to clay-based alternatives. The coir matrix encapsulates fluid on contact, reducing the tendency for re-deposit during sweeping or collection. The portfolio comprises granular absorbents, absorbent socks, and pre-assembled spill kits. Each format targets general hydrocarbons, water-based fluids, and coolants; specific absorption ratios are not detailed in the release.
For baseline comparison: conventional clay absorbents add roughly 1.5–2.0 kg of dry mass per liter absorbed and frequently leave fine particulate residue on concrete and tool surfaces. The coir formulation reduces both metrics. In a service bay, particulate residue migrates into intake vents, shop air lines, and unprotected electronic modules, where it accelerates oxidation at relay contacts and multi-pin connectors.
Application in the Service Bay
The line is targeted at automotive service centers and manufacturing facilities. The diagnostic relevance is direct. Glycol, ATF, brake fluid, and solvent spills that reach ECU connectors, harness junctions, or chassis ground points introduce parallel resistance and leakage paths. Containment procedure: isolate the spill perimeter with absorbent socks, apply granular product from the perimeter inward to prevent outward migration, allow full capillary saturation before sweeping, and dispose of saturated coir into a sealed waste container. Sock variants are deployed along trench drains or beneath lifts where drip pans are absent. Do not deploy coir near open flame or hot exhaust components; cellulose-based substrates ignite at temperatures below diesel particulate thresholds.
